Feeling Good in a New Space

Updated: Apr 30, 2018

Moving to a new place is scary. Maybe these tips can help!

First, I would like to say congrats on moving to a new place! Moving is full of unsure changes like addresses, new places to shop, new climates, and of course, needing to get to know people. So often, moving to a new spot can cause some sorts of depressing feelings, whether that is missing old friends and family, feeling uncomfortable in your surroundings or not knowing anybody. I have some tips that can definitely help with making sure you get comfy in your new place and ultimately live happy!

1. Get a pet!- Pets are an easy way to keep the mind occupied and are immediate and easy companionship. They will always need someone to take care of them and love them, so getting a pet and having them on your side is definitely an easy way to keep yourself happy!

2. Stay active!- The easiest way to stop feelings of depression is to exercise. There have been studies that have verified that exercise is a direct correlation to lowering levels of anxiety and depression. So anything from jogs, to walking pets, or shooting some hoops can be an easy way to keep the body and mind active. In a study done on moderately depressed men in their 30's, there was correlation between exercise and lowering levels of depression.

3. Join activities and get involved!- A super easy way to meet people and beat the depressive feelings is to join a club or an activity! Going to a social place where people with similar goals or interests go is such an easy way to meet people. If you enjoy art, sign up for some classes and meet others who are interested in that. Or, at your local gym, if you're an athlete, enroll in a competitive sports team or some classes that interest you. People will be all around and you all will be trying to accomplish a similar goal, so that should keep you happy and busy! People in teams are always happier than someone by themself!

That's all I have for tips today, so best of luck to you and your move, and welcome to our amazing city!
